What our analysis found
Font Finder, used by 80,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in March 2022.
Analyst notes
The extension performs font inspection using minimal permissions (activeTab, storage, contextMenus) and does not exfiltrate data. All network requests are user-initiated ([domain withheld] search, rate link) or load local resources. The ML model likely overfitted on pattern counts from UI code (e.g., js_appendchild, js_tabs_execute_script). A manifest mismatch exists (bundled MV2 vs. published MV3), but this is a version difference, not malicious.
