What our analysis found
AdBlock — block ads across the web, used by 64,000,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites, can inject scripts into pages and can observe network requests. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in September 2026.
The ML risk score is 0.00 (low) — the model itself did not flag this extension; the elevated 'Critical' risk engine score derives entirely from permission-level heuristics that are inherent to any ad blocker (webRequest, scripting, declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess, <all_urls>). Source code review found zero evidence of malicious behavior: all 32 extracted files carry proper GPL v3 copyright headers from Adblock, Inc., all network calls target or extension-internal resources, no code execution or intentional obfuscation was detected, and the permhash cluster contains 0% malware-flagged peers across 59 extensions. The published manifest and bundled manifest differ only in that the CWS listing exposes purify. as a web-accessible resource while the bundle does not — a harmless discrepancy that makes the bundle marginally more restrictive.
