Translate Selected Text, used by 100,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in June 2024.
The background service worker exclusively constructs Google Translate URLs from user-selected text or links and opens them in new All storage use () is for saving user preferences and session state; the only notification is a one-time install message. No data is sent to any third-party server beyond the intended endpoint, which is consistent with the extension's stated purpose and CWS-disclosed data collection ('Website content'). The bundled JavaScript is standard Webpack output with no obfuscation, eval, or remote code loading. The presence of DOM manipulation patterns in the options page bundle (not provided) is typical for UI code and not indicative of malicious behavior. Overall, the extension behaves exactly as described and contains no suspicious logic.

This extension allows you to translate the text selection using Google Translate whenever you want. When the extension is installed select some text from a website, right click and select to which language you want to translate the selected text. ** FAQ: ** Q: Why choose this extension and not another one? A: I designed this extension so that it didn't prompt the user for permissions. This way the final user knows that the extension doesn't have the permission to access the content of web pages and monitor the user activity on the Internet (other extensions of this type prompt for this permission). This extension has access only to the content of the selected text when the user clicks the extension context menu and it is used to create a Google Translate app with the text autocompleted.
