Google Translate, used by 38,000,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can inject scripts into pages. It was last updated in July 2026.
This is the official Google Translate extension published by Google (verified: Built by Google flag set, publisher email google-translate-chrome-extension-owners@, 38M users, CWS featured). All network activity goes exclusively to and (first-party Google domains), which is the core translation service; the language list fetch to and the widget load from are both expected, disclosed functionality. The code is standard Google Closure Library compiled output — the high js_appendchild (39), js_exclamation (2002), and js_hex_obfuscation (49) counts are Closure Compiler artifacts, not malicious obfuscation. The ML model itself scored this 0.00 and the third-party vendor scored likelihood, both corroborating benign verdict. The bundled manifest is MV2 (v2.0.9, 633 days old) while the live CWS listing shows MV3 with additional permissions, reflecting a normal extension migration after this version was published — not a malicious discrepancy.
