Transcribe & Chat to Videos | Scribe, used by 60,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in April 2026.
Analyst notes
The extension performs exactly what it describes: injecting transcript into YouTube, scraping transcript data, and sending it to the publisher's own domain ([domain withheld]) for AI processing and storage. No data is sent to unrelated third parties. The heavy use of innerHTML and appendChild is normal for a content-script that builds complex UI. The permhash cluster contains 19232 extensions, only 13% flagged, and the publisher is Google-trusted with a 6-year-old extension. All network requests go to first-party domains; the ML flags are typical false positives from legitimate DOM manipulation and API calls. While the CWS privacy disclosure lists 'none' for data collection (contradicting the actual transcript transmission), this is a compliance oversight, not malware.
