What our analysis found
Off The Record History, used by 50,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in May 2023.
Analyst notes
The extension's sole function is to locally record incognito browsing history using the tabs permission and localStorage, with no external data transmission besides benign Google Analytics for UI interaction tracking. All permissions are justified and minimal. The manifest mismatch (bundled v2 vs. listed v3) suggests a later update, but the analyzed code is demonstrably safe. ML and third-party signals both indicate low risk, supporting a false positive.
