What our analysis found
Merge Windows, used by 4,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in June 2024.
Analyst notes
The extension source is minimal and completely benign: a single (32 lines) that listens for the toolbar button click, queries tabs from other windows using chrome.tabs.query, moves them to the current window with chrome.tabs.move, and restores pinned state. No network requests, no data collection, no external APIs, no eval, no obfuscation. The bundled is MV2 (no permissions declared beyond implicit access via browser_action), and the live CWS listing shows MV3 — a version mismatch, but this version (1.2.0, 733 days old) predates the MV3 migration and the listing likely reflects a newer unpublished draft. The ML score of 0.61 is a false positive driven by the tiny file size and low user count; the chrome-stats score is impact. Publisher is Sindre Sorhus (Google trusted, featured listing), a well-known open-source author whose privacy policy applies to all his extensions.
