On first install (when ext_lastcheck is absent from localStorage), proc_check_data automatically opens the publisher's website ([domain withheld]) in a new tab after 700 ms without any user gesture. The extension is advertised as a file encryption tool but contains no encryption logic whatsoever; its sole runtime behaviour is to redirect the user to the publisher's site on install and to serve as a clickable shortcut thereafter. This is adware-style traffic-driving disguised as a utility extension.
Analyst notes
The extension claims to MS Office files but contains zero encryption or decryption code — the entire JavaScript payload is a tab-management utility library () and a background script () that opens the publisher's website ([domain withheld]) when the toolbar icon is clicked. More critically, proc_check_data() in automatically opens that URL in a new tab on first install without any user interaction, exhibiting adware-like behaviour. The chrome-stats score is low () and the destination is the publisher's own domain so there is no third-party data exfiltration, but the extension is fundamentally deceptive and the publisher has a 25% malicious rate across their portfolio.
