Analyst notes
This is a functionally complete anime-wallpaper new-tab page (clock, shortcuts, news ticker, widgets) whose entire permission surface is `search` plus one first-party host; it declares no content_scripts, no access, and every one of its three network calls (:49,:35,:17) is a payload-free GET to the publisher's own [domain withheld], so there is no path by which user data leaves the browser. The permhash cluster (33% malicious) is the classic newtab-override + search hijacker fingerprint and is the likely driver of the 0.84 score, but it is directly contradicted by:219, which hands the query to chrome.search.query() and thereby to the user's own default engine, with no override, no URL, and no search-term telemetry anywhere in the code. The malext-feed note is self-described as a bulk feed import with no affected version rather than a code review, and chrome-stats independently rates impact with a 1% publisher malicious rate; I treat those as context only. Residual, non-disqualifying concerns kept out of findings::51 assigns publisher-controlled HTML fetched from [domain withheld] straight into the new tab via innerHTML, and:82-91 interpolates server-supplied shortcut URLs unescaped into, so while the default MV3 CSP (the manifest sets no content_security_policy, leaving script-src 'self') blocks script execution, javascript: URIs and inline handlers there, the publisher retains a remotely mutable surface inside a trusted-looking page that can change without a store update; separately:18-23 deletes every IndexedDB database, which is scoped to the extension's own origin and is sloppy rather than harmful.
