Other
This file is the bundled manifest (JSON; the schema's language enum has no JSON option). It declares only the 'search' permission and no host_permissions at all, while the live Chrome Web Store listing for this ID declares host_permissions [domain withheld], and the listing description advertises a 'News Feed Bar' that no bundled script implements. The shipped version therefore holds a network capability and a remote-feed feature that the code reviewed here does not contain, so this review cannot speak for what users are actually running.
Analyst notes
The bundled 2.0.0 code is clean: there is not a single outbound network call in, or,:191 routes queries through chrome.search.query (the user's own default engine, not a hijacked SERP) which is the discriminator against the 33%-malware permhash cluster, the:19-25 IndexedDB wipe only touches the extension's own origin, and the [domain withheld] shortcuts are user-clicked affiliate redirects rather than silent requests; contains no url()/@ references, and confirms is the only code file not supplied to me (it accounts for the bulk of the 95,677 JS bytes, which is an inference, not a review). What I cannot clear is the live listing: the published manifest declares host_permissions [domain withheld] that the bundled manifest does not, and the store description advertises a 'News Feed Bar' with no corresponding code here, so the shipping version reaches a backend this ZIP never contacts. Our risk engine (0.10), chrome-stats ( impact, trusted publisher) and the publisher's leave-one-out rate all contradict the 0.77 ML score on the code I read; the malext feed flag names no affected version, so it cannot be tied to 2.0.0 either.
