Key findings
- High
Other
The bundled manifest declares permissions ['background', 'storage'] and manifest_version 2, while the published CWS listing shows only ['storage'] and manifest_version 3. This discrepancy could mislead users about the extension's actual permissions and manifest version.
Analyst notes
The extension only redirects the new tab page to the publisher's domain ([domain withheld]) with a unique identifier and the extension ID. No third-party network requests, code injection, obfuscation, or data exfiltration were found. The manifest mismatch between the bundled version and the published listing is noted but not indicative of malicious intent. The ML model's low score and the simple, transparent codebase support a false positive determination.
