Analyst notes
The extension's code matches its stated purpose of collecting Facebook ad data locally. and hook XHR on Facebook to capture sponsored post data and send it to the extension's content script for local processing, not to external servers. The sends state the publisher's own domain ([domain withheld]), which is disclosed. and are the well-known Freshchat support widget, which is a legitimate third-party tool for customer engagement and its data handling is covered by the publisher's privacy policy. The high counts from the ML model are due to these minified libraries, not malicious obfuscation. The permhash cluster containing 23% flagged peers is not a reliable indicator given the cluster size of 24k extensions sharing the same narrow set of permissions. The publisher has one other extension flagged malicious, but this extension has a long history, high rating, and many users with no credible evidence of malice.
