Microsoft Bing Search with Rewards, used by 3,000,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in November 2025.
The extension is published by Microsoft Corporation, a trusted publisher, and all observed behaviors align with its stated purpose as a Bing search and rewards extension. Broad permissions (cookies, scripting, declarativeNetRequest, etc.) are used solely to set Bing as default search, redirect searches to Bing with partner codes, display reward notifications, and inject a Bing flyout panel. Telemetry destinations are Microsoft-owned domains (,,), matching the publisher's privacy policy. No data exfiltration, credential theft, or unauthorized collection was detected. The ML model's risk signals were based on permission patterns common to search-centric extensions, and the pre-computed risk report erroneously treated legitimate API usage as malicious.
