What our analysis found
Mercedes Sparks Power Live Wallpaper showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in May 2026.
Analyst notes
The extension is a straightforward new-tab wallpaper replacement with a video background, clock display, search bar (using the declared `search` permission via `chrome.search.query`), and user-managed shortcuts stored in localStorage. The only network activity in is opening a tab to `[domain withheld]` on install with UTM tracking parameters (a common pattern for this publisher's extension family) and setting an uninstall URL to `[domain withheld]`, both consistent with the publisher's own domain ecosystem. No data is exfiltrated, no remote code is loaded, and no obfuscation is present. The ML score of 0.38 (medium) and the permhash cluster with 3% malware rate are explained by the extension's newtab override capability, not by any observed malicious behavior; third-party chrome-stats scores this impact and likelihood, and the publisher holds a Google trusted badge.
