What our analysis found
HTTP Indicator, used by 10,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in February 2023.
Analyst notes
The extension is a minimal HTTP protocol indicator with only 2 tiny JS files totaling ~633 bytes. The content script reads Navigation Timing 2 data (nextHopProtocol) and sends it via chrome.runtime.sendMessage to the background script, which updates the browser action to reflect the detected protocol (,,, QUIC, SPDY). There is no data exfiltration, no remote fetching, no obfuscation, and no external network calls whatsoever — the ML score of 0.43 is a false positive driven purely by the presence of content_scripts with <all_urls> and the codebase profile.
