Suspicious in code review (v1.0.0)
Our reviewer found behaviour consistent with malware in version 1.0.0, but not enough to confirm it. Treat this extension as untrusted until it has been re-reviewed.
What our analysis found
Heart Love Live Wallpaper is rated caution by Extension Auditor. Our code review reported 2 findings (1 high, 1 medium), led by other. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in October 2026.
Key findings
- High
Other
The bundled manifest declares no host_permissions, but the live CWS listing manifest includes '[domain withheld]'. This gap — permissions present in the published version but absent from the extracted ZIP — is consistent with a publisher adding network access post-review. No code in the extracted JS makes any calls to [domain withheld], suggesting the capability may be wired in a version not captured here.
- Medium
Other
On install the extension opens a [domain withheld] URL with UTM tracking parameters, and the uninstall URL also points to [domain withheld]. The CWS listing publisher is [domain withheld] with a [domain withheld] privacy policy, but all embedded URLs in the code resolve to [domain withheld] — a different domain and entity. This identity split between the listed publisher and the actual code author is a meaningful attribution concern and suggests the extension may be a resold or rebranded template with mismatched disclosed ownership.
Analyst notes
The extracted code is functionally benign — a standard new-tab wallpaper extension with clock, shortcuts, and a search bar that only calls chrome.search.query locally. However, two concrete discrepancies raise flags: (1) the live CWS manifest declares host_permissions '["[domain withheld]"]' while the bundled manifest contains no host_permissions at all, consistent with a delayed-permission update pattern; (2) the bundled manifest author is '[domain withheld]', all in-code URLs (install redirect, privacy policy, 'more extensions' link) point to [domain withheld], yet the CWS publisher is [domain withheld] with a [domain withheld] privacy policy — indicating the extension was built by a different entity than who listed it. The third-party risk score (low) and Google trusted-publisher badge corroborate the benign-code signal, but the manifest mismatch and identity confusion prevent a clean false_positive ruling.
