What our analysis found
BLACKPINK Wallpapers New Tab Lisa Rose Jennie Jisoo, used by 3,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in May 2025.
Analyst notes
All first-party code (,,,) is a plain wallpaper new-tab: a clock, localStorage-backed shortcuts, random local backgrounds, and a search box that calls chrome.search.query (:99) so the user's own default engine handles the query — there are no content scripts, no host permissions, no reads, no eval or dynamic code, and nothing is POSTed anywhere. Confidence is held at medium, not false_positive, for two reasons: the live CWS manifest declares host_permissions ['[domain withheld]'] while the bundled 3.0.0 manifest declares none, so the published build contains code paths I could not review (the domain is first-party — the publisher privacy policy is itself hosted on [domain withheld] — which makes the mismatch weak evidence of malice but still unreviewed surface); and plus appear in but were not supplied, so a tampered vendor bundle cannot be excluded. Hygiene-only observations kept out of findings: chrome.runtime.setUninstallURL points at the unrelated [domain withheld] (:13-14, traffic monetization, no user data attached), and:18-23 wipes IndexedDB — but in the extension's own origin only, where the sole database is its own videoDB. The chrome-stats score and our 0.10 risk-engine score agree with this call but are not independent evidence; the 62%-malicious publisher figure and the 'malware' internal note both derive from the same malext-feed import, which states it is 'not an independent code review', and the code contradicts them.
