What our analysis found
Weather-Extension showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in November 2024.
Analyst notes
The extension is a straightforward beginner-level weather app: fetches weather from the legitimate [domain withheld] API using geolocation (:17-18), does the same for a user-entered city (:16-17), and overrides the new tab with a video-background weather widget — all consistent with its stated purpose. The ML score of 0.76 is a false positive driven by the newtab override flag, low user count, geolocation+fetch pattern, and the single innerHTML hit; none of these indicate malice. The third-party risk score (Impact) and our own risk engine (0.00) both contradict the ML signal; the only genuine hygiene concern is that both API calls use http:// rather than [domain withheld], transmitting the user's GPS coordinates over plain HTTP to [domain withheld] — this is a hygiene issue but not evidence of malicious intent, especially in an apparent student project with commented-out code and console.log debugging still present.
