What our analysis found
VPN Browser, used by 100,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites and can observe network requests. It was last updated in October 2026.
The code is a well-structured VPN extension whose permissions are each exercised exclusively for legitimate VPN purposes: `proxy` sets Chrome proxy rules, `privacy` controls WebRTC leak prevention, `webRequest`/`webRequestAuthProvider` handle proxy authentication, and `management` only queries for conflicting proxy extensions. All network destinations are either the publisher's own ` ` subdomains or well-known third-party services ( for IP lookup). Analytics events (, etc.) are sent to ` ` and are covered by the CWS-disclosed 'User activity' collection. The ML score of 0.15 reflects the high-privilege permission set inherent to any legitimate VPN extension, not malicious behavior. The only anomaly is a config fetch from ` ` — a third-party domain not mentioned in the privacy policy — but it is a GET request carrying no user data, and the extension only reads `rateUsReminderDays` from the response.
