What our analysis found
uBlock Origin, used by 11,000,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can observe network requests. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in August 2026.
uBlock Origin is one of the most well-known open-source content blockers in existence. The bundled manifest matches the published manifest exactly — no permission mismatch. All reviewed source files carry GPL copyright headers, reference the public GitHub repository (), and implement functionality consistent with a content blocker: DOM filtering (), filter-list subscription handling (), and update-link handling restricted strictly to (). The web_accessible_resources files are no-op stub replacements for common tracking scripts (google-analytics, nitropay, prebid, etc.) — a documented uBO feature that serves harmless shims instead of blocking outright. Permissions (webRequest, webRequestBlocking, <all_urls>, privacy) are mandatory for any content blocker and describe core functionality, not malice.
