The extension is a basic new tab page with time, date, and search. It uses the 'tabs' permission only to replace the new tab page. The background script redirects chrome://newtab to the extension's. The search form submits to the publisher's domain ([domain withheld]), and autocomplete uses Yahoo's search suggestion API, which is a normal third-party service for a search feature. The manifest version mismatch (bundled v2 vs live v3) is due to the analyzed version being older and not malicious.
