What our analysis found
The Simpsons Cursor ★ Custom Cursor for Chrome™ showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites. It comes from a publisher with 21 extensions and was last updated in November 2025.
Analyst notes
All three bundled scripts do exactly what a cursor-skin extension should: reads three storage keys and appends one <style> element whose cursor: url() is a canvas-generated data: URI (:20-34), only seeds defaults, opens the publisher's own [domain withheld] page on and opens the extension's own CWS reviews URL, and manages in chrome.storage.local. There is not a single. call anywhere (grep over all returned only:204 innerHTML=''), no ad or redirect injection, and the bundled manifest matches the published summary exactly (MV3, permissions=[storage], all_frames content script, web_accessible_resources cur/*.*). Contradicting signals are the Unit42 IoC listing (2025-08-19) and the 10%-malicious storage-only permhash cluster; the IoC predates this build (~Dec 2025) and any PUP behaviour would live on the [domain withheld] landing pages the utm-tagged links open, not in this code — I hold at likely_benign rather than false_positive only because jquery. (~90 KB of the reported 103 KB total) was not included in the bundle and could not be verified as a stock jQuery release.
