What our analysis found

Stylus, used by 800,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites, can inject scripts into pages and can observe network requests. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in September 2026.

Stylus is a well-known open-source user style manager with 1M+ users, a Featured badge, and a trusted publisher. The broad permissions are necessary for its core functionality: applying custom CSS to any website and managing styles. All external network activity goes to documented style repositories (, userstyles.world, GreasyFork) or user-configured cloud sync services (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) – no unauthorized data exfiltration or tracking. ML signals (eval, innerHTML, etc.) come from the large bundled codebase and the CodeMirror editor, not from malicious obfuscation. The published manifest matches the bundled manifest; the privacy policy and CWS listing state no data collection. This is a clear false positive.
