What our analysis found
Sonic the Hedgehog showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in June 2025.
Analyst notes
All reviewed code implements standard newtab replacement behavior: clock, shortcuts stored in localStorage, a local video background, and a chrome.search-powered search bar. No outbound network calls to any third-party or publisher domain are present in the code; the install handler opens a disclosed marketing page on [domain withheld] (the publisher's own domain, also linked in the extension's HTML footer) and deletes IndexedDB databases scoped to the extension's own service-worker origin. The only notable anomalies are a mismatch ('Sonic the Hedgehog' vs. 'Silver Dragon Live Wallpaper' vs. 'bmwm4+neon' UTM campaign) suggesting template reuse across themed extensions, and a manifest discrepancy where the published CWS listing declares host_permissions for [domain withheld] while the bundled manifest omits it entirely—yet no code references that domain. Both chrome-stats ( impact, likelihood, trusted publisher) and the low ML score (0.28) corroborate a benign assessment; the permhash cluster's 3% malicious rate is low and not supported by any matching code pattern in this extension.
