What our analysis found
Soccer Cursor - Custom Sports Cursor for Chrome showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites and can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a publisher with 15 extensions and was last updated in June 2026.
Analyst notes
The entire bundle is a self-contained cursor-swapper::34-79 reads six keys from chrome.storage.local and writes a static CSS template into a <style> element, and the only cursor sources are the 128 local PNG pairs in (grep -c 'http' returns 0), rendered through canvas.toDataURL() (:35-50, main.) so the stored cursor value is always a data: URI, never a remote URL that could beacon per site. There is no, no, no onMessage or externally_connectable, and no remote code anywhere in the 310KB React popup bundle — the only outbound traffic in the whole extension is fetch(" "), a bundled file. Contradicting signals that the code does NOT corroborate: the Unit42 IoC listing, the publisher's leave-one-out malicious record, and the 15% malware rate in the 1033-member permhash cluster; the only mechanism the code offers for an " " label is marketing funnel behaviour, not data theft — an install-time tab to the publisher's own utm-tagged landing page (:80-83), a setUninstallURL to [domain withheld] (:54), and a top-level chrome.tabs.reload of any open [domain withheld] tab on every service-worker wake (:99-107). That funnel plus the all-sites host permission being broader than a cursor needs are concerns, not evidence of malice, so I withhold false_positive and cannot rule out a delayed-malicious future update from this publisher.
