BMW Wallpapers, used by 4,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a publisher with 15 extensions and was last updated in June 2026.

Source code review finds no malicious behavior: the extension does exactly what it describes (BMW wallpapers for new tab with clock, shortcuts, and search). All JS is readable, unobfuscated, and matches its stated purpose. The only outbound network calls are to Google (well-known services) and [domain withheld] (the publisher's own domain). The bundled manifest exactly matches the published manifest (only `search` permission). The sole unusual pattern — deleting all IndexedDB databases in — is self-contained to the extension's own origin in MV3 and cannot touch other extensions or websites. The elevated ML score (0.29) and publisher reputation ( sibling extensions malicious) are the main concerns, but publisher-level contamination is not code-level evidence; the permhash cluster itself has only 3% malicious rate across 7,993 extensions.
