Screenshot reader™, used by 5,000,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in January 2026.
The extension is a legitimate accessibility tool (Screenshot Reader for Read&Write) developed by a reputable publisher. Broad host permissions and content scripts are necessary for its screenshot OCR and text-to-speech functionality. All data flows (speech synthesis requests, OCR processing) go to the publisher's own servers ( subdomains) or are internal to the extension. No evidence of data exfiltration, tracking, or malicious behavior found. The ML model and risk engine flagged broad permissions and large minified codebase, but these are inherent to the extension's purpose.
