What our analysis found

QR Code (Generator and Reader), used by 200,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in May 2024.

Analyst notes

The extension generates QR codes locally and scans images for QR codes using standard libraries. The only network request is an opt-in Google Analytics snippet (sendUsageStats default false). The broad <all_urls> permission is necessary to fetch images from any domain for scanning. The manifest mismatch between the bundle and the store listing is due to a suspected post-1.3.8 update to MV3; no malicious behavior is evident in the reviewed code.

Works great for scanning and generating. Had to realize that you right-click on a QR code image then select the QR Code from the menu and inside that you select scan. There's a youtube video on that also, but it's pretty intuitive. Very nice extension, thank you devs.

I didn't know a qr reader could be this bad. I cant even read images of qr codes.
