What our analysis found
McLaren P1 Live Wallpaper New Tab showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in June 2025.
Analyst notes
This is a straightforward new-tab wallpaper extension that replaces the new tab page with a McLaren P1 video (loaded from [domain withheld] CDN), a clock, Google search bar, and user-managed shortcuts stored in localStorage. No data exfiltration, credential theft, obfuscation, or unauthorized collection was found across all JS, HTML, and CSS files. The bundled manifest declares zero permissions and zero host_permissions, while the published manifest summary shows `search` and `[domain withheld] — this discrepancy is consistent with a version difference (the ZIP is v1.2.02, an older build) rather than deliberate permission evasion. The IndexedDB deletion in runs in the extension service worker context which is origin-scoped to the extension itself, so it only clears the extension's own databases — not any cross-origin data. The publisher holds a Google Trusted Publisher badge, third-party scores are both, and the malicious-extension rate for this publisher is 1% across 1351 extensions.
