What our analysis found

Manga Translator, used by 60,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in October 2026.

Analyst notes

The extension is a legitimate manga translator that uses Firebase Authentication for user accounts and captures screenshots for image translation. The background code only handles authentication, token management, and screenshot capture; all data collection is disclosed in the CWS listing and sent to the publisher's Firebase project (first-party). The broad host permissions and identity permission are required for the extension's stated functionality. The risk-engine and ML signals are overfitting on common patterns in minified Firebase SDK code and standard webpack bundles.
