What our analysis found
Lightshot (screenshot tool), used by 2,000,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in July 2024.
The extension implements a screenshot tool with expected functionality: capturing visible tabs, editing, uploading to the publisher's own cloud service (), and sharing. All network requests are confined to and, matching the publisher's domain. Permissions are necessary for the tool's features. No code injection, data exfiltration to third parties, or hidden malicious behavior was found. The discrepancy between the bundled manifest (v2) and live CWS summary (v3) is likely due to a version upgrade and does not indicate malice. The ML model's low score (0.02) and the extension's high reputation, user count, and ratings further support a benign verdict.
