Suspicious in code review (v1.2.1)
Our reviewer found behaviour consistent with malware in version 1.2.1, but not enough to confirm it. Treat this extension as untrusted until it has been re-reviewed.
What our analysis found
Fortnite Gia Live Wallpaper is rated caution by Extension Auditor. Our code review reported 2 findings (1 high, 1 medium), led by other. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in November 2026.
Key findings
- High
Other
The bundled manifest declares no host_permissions, but the live CWS listing asserts `"host_permissions": ["[domain withheld]"]`. This is a direct discrepancy between the submitted and bundled manifests. Additionally, the bundled `author` field is `[domain withheld]` while the CWS publisher and privacy-policy URL both reference `[domain withheld]`, indicating the CWS listing misrepresents the extension's actual origin domain.
- Medium
Tracking
On installation the extension silently opens a tab to `[domain withheld]` with UTM parameters, creating a trackable install-notification ping to a domain that is not the declared publisher ([domain withheld]) and that is not disclosed in the CWS data-collection declaration (none declared). The UTM content `bmwm4+neon` is unrelated to the Fortnite Gia theme and is a direct artefact of copy-paste from a BMW M4 Neon wallpaper template, confirming this extension was mass-produced by an extension farm under a false publisher identity.
Analyst notes
The extension contains two concrete red flags beyond its stated wallpaper functionality: (1) the bundled has no host_permissions at all, yet the live CWS listing declares `[domain withheld] — a direct manifest mismatch that per our analysis protocol is itself a finding; (2) the install handler opens an unsolicited tab to `[domain withheld], a domain completely different from the declared publisher ([domain withheld]), and the UTM content `bmwm4+neon` (BMW M4 Neon) is entirely unrelated to Fortnite's Gia character — proving this is a copy-paste template from an extension farm. The bundled manifest's own `author` field is `[domain withheld]`, all links point to [domain withheld], and the in-extension privacy policy URL is `[domain withheld], while the CWS listing claims `[domain withheld]` with a `[domain withheld] URL — systematic identity misrepresentation. ML score (0.43 medium) is low and the code contains no data exfiltration, remote code loading, or obfuscation, which contradicts a malicious verdict; chrome-stats marks the publisher as trusted, which contradicts the identity mismatch finding. On balance the extension is suspicious: extension-farm template misrepresentation with an undisclosed cross-domain install-time tracking redirect, but no confirmed payload.
