Suspicious in code review (v1.3.2)
Our reviewer found behaviour consistent with malware in version 1.3.2, but not enough to confirm it. Treat this extension as untrusted until it has been re-reviewed.
What our analysis found
Dark Bomber Fortnite Live Wallpaper is rated caution by Extension Auditor. Our code review reported 2 findings (1 high, 1 medium), led by other. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in November 2026.
Key findings
- High
Other
The bundled declares no `host_permissions`, but the live CWS listing explicitly declares `host_permissions: ["[domain withheld]"]`. A divergence between what was submitted to Google and what ships in the ZIP is a significant integrity concern — the live listing reflects what the publisher represented to Google, but users are running a package that declares fewer permissions, which can mask capability differences between reviewed and distributed versions.
- Medium
Other
This block runs at the top level of the service worker (outside any event listener), meaning it executes on every service worker activation — not just at install time. It unconditionally deletes all IndexedDB databases scoped to the extension's origin. While scoped to `chrome-extension://` and therefore limited to the extension's own storage, running destructive cleanup on every activation rather than once at install (or uninstall) is atypical and could be used to erase traces of prior activity across sessions.
Analyst notes
The code itself is a standard new-tab wallpaper extension (video background, clock, user shortcuts, chrome.search.query) with no active data exfiltration or C2 communication. However, two structural anomalies elevate suspicion: (1) the bundled is missing the `host_permissions: ["[domain withheld]"]` entry that appears in the live CWS listing — a meaningful discrepancy the instructions require flagging as a finding; (2) the entire code base references `[domain withheld]` (author field in manifest, privacy policy, uninstall, and promotional links in) while the CWS publisher identity is `[domain withheld]`, suggesting either a rebranded or transferred extension with stale embedded code. The ML score of 0.50 is likely driven by the newtab override, jQuery size, and the indexedDB deletion pattern in; chrome-stats corroborates low, and the Google trusted-publisher badge weakly contradicts the ML signal. No concrete exfiltration evidence was found, but the manifest mismatch and publisher identity inconsistency prevent a clean false-positive clearance.
