What our analysis found
Cypress Chrome Recorder, used by 10,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in April 2023.
Analyst notes
The extension is a legitimate Chrome DevTools Recorder plugin that converts browser recordings into Cypress test scripts. The entire JavaScript bundle () is open-source Apache 2.0 code from Google LLC (chrome-recorder-export libraries) combined with a Cypress stringify extension — there is no network activity, no data collection, no remote endpoints, and no obfuscation. The only Chrome API used is `chrome.devtools.recorder.registerRecorderExtensionPlugin` (line 1325), which is precisely the API this type of developer-tools extension is designed to use. The ML score of 0.57 is driven purely by file-size and structural metrics (50KB JS, exclamation counts from minified code) with no behavioral signals backing it up.
