What our analysis found
CSS Peeper, used by 500,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites, can inject scripts into pages and can observe network requests. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in September 2026.
The extension is a CSS inspection tool that includes an optional charity donation popup on checkout pages. All network activity is sent to the publisher's own domain () or to the disclosed donation service (), aligned with the CWS-disclosed data collection categories. No evidence of unauthorized data exfiltration, credential theft, or hidden tracking was found. The broad permissions are required for the inspector and functionality, and the large JS size is due to bundled libraries (Parcel, GiveFreely SDK). The ML and risk-engine flags are false positives triggered by benign permission sets and minified code patterns.
