What our analysis found
Clear Cache, used by 1,000,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in October 2026.
The extension's core behavior is clearing browser data, with all permissions used for legitimate purposes (browsingData, scripting for popup injection, offscreen for payment sandbox). The only network communication is with first-party (,) and payment provider (), all disclosed in the privacy policy and matching the CWS-declared data collection categories. The manifest listing shows scripting as optional but the bundled manifest requires it – a discrepancy, but not indicative of malice. The 'declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess' permission is declared but unused, which is over‑privileged but not exploited in the reviewed code. The ML model likely over‑weighted the broad permissions and minified code; the extension is benign.
