What our analysis found
Chiikawa Cursor - Kawaii Cursor for Chrome, used by 1,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites and can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in June 2026.
Analyst notes
The source code is a straightforward cursor-customization extension. The content script () injects a CSS stylesheet via a dynamically-created <style> element to change the cursor appearance—no page-content reading, no data exfiltration. The service worker () fetches only the local bundled file ` ` (extension-internal URL), uses `chrome.scripting.executeScript` to inject ` ` on install (legitimate on-boarding pattern), and sets an uninstall URL pointing to `[domain withheld]` (the publisher's own domain). The main React bundle (main.) references only `[domain withheld]` URLs and `chrome.storage.local` for cursor preferences. No third-party network calls, no DOM scraping, no credential access, no code loading, and no obfuscation beyond standard minification. The ML score is driven by broad permissions (`*://*/*` + `scripting`) plus minifier-inflated counters (`js_exclamation`, `js_fromcharcode` from React internals), which are classic false-positive triggers for extensions.
