Auto Quality for YouTube™, used by 100,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Our code review reported 1 finding (1 high), led by other. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites, can inject scripts into pages and can observe network requests.

Key findings

high· other —The bundled uses manifest_version 2 and requests permissions webRequest, webRequestBlocking, *://*/*, whereas the live CWS listing shows manifest_version 3 and different permissions (activeTab, scripting, declarativeNetRequest, alarms). The permissions and version do not match, indicating a possible outdated extension or listing discrepancy.

The extension code implements only YouTube auto-quality and autopause functionality. No data exfiltration, tracking, or malicious network activity was found. The broad permissions (webRequest, webRequestBlocking, all_urls) are either unused or scoped to YouTube in practice. The manifest mismatch with the CWS listing is a hygiene concern but not malicious. The ML model and risk engine likely over-fit on permission patterns, but the actual behavior is benign.
