Key findings
- High
Unauthorized Data Collection
The extension initializes the Alibaba Cloud ARMS analytics tracker with the user's Google email as the user ID. This sends the email to a third-party domain ([domain withheld]) without any disclosure in the Chrome Web Store listing (privacyCollections is empty). While analytics may be benign, the silent collection of personally identifiable email addresses without user consent is a privacy concern.
Analyst notes
The extension's core functionality (YouTube video translation via subtitles) is legitimate and uses first-party APIs. However, it silently activates a third-party analytics SDK (Alibaba Cloud ARMS) passing the user's Google email as a user identifier. This data collection is not disclosed in the Chrome Web Store privacy disclosures, representing a privacy gap. No overt malicious payload or credential theft was found, and the permissions requested are appropriate for the stated purpose.
