What our analysis found
Pixel Pets, used by 1,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites and can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in October 2026.
Analyst notes
All source code is consistent with the stated purpose of a pixel pet animation extension. The three JS files (,,) contain only animation state machines, DOM sprite rendering inside a Shadow DOM host, chrome.storage.local, and internal chrome.runtime message passing — zero network requests, zero external data sends, no eval or dynamic code construction. The ML score of 0.20 is driven by standard minified bundle patterns (innerHTML, appendChild) and a legitimate install-time scripting.executeScript call that injects the bundled into already-open tabs, which is a common and necessary pattern. Third-party chrome-stats risk signals are entirely (new extension, low users), not behavioral, and directly contradict no code evidence.
