About this extension

HTTP traffic inspector & repeater for security researchers. Visualize, filter, and replay requests — like a lightweight Burp Suite.

Read the publisher’s full description

PhantomProxy is a sophisticated browser extension tailored for security researchers, penetration testers, web developers, and CTF competitors who need an efficient, lightweight tool to inspect, analyze, and replay HTTP traffic directly within their browser. Designed as an easy-to-use alternative to bulky external proxy software such as Burp Suite, PhantomProxy integrates seamlessly with your browser’s Developer Tools to offer real-time capture and deep inspection of HTTP and HTTPS requests. Once installed, PhantomProxy adds its own dedicated panel to your browser’s Developer Tools, where all HTTP(S) network traffic is automatically logged and displayed in a user-friendly, visually rich history interface. Users can sift through requests easily by applying powerful filters including HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, etc.), status codes, or URLs, enabling quick identification and investigation of relevant traffic. Selecting a specific request reveals comprehensive details such as request and response headers, bodies, timings, and metadata—all formatted cleanly to facilitate thorough examination. One of PhantomProxy’s hallmark features is its built-in repeater tool, which allows users to take any captured request and interactively modify critical components including the HTTP method, URL, headers, and payload body. After making changes, you can resend the request instantly and view the response directly within the panel, complete with status codes, response headers, and the body content parsed and syntax-highlighted for ease of analysis, with support for bodies up to 2MB in size. Repeater sessions are managed efficiently, letting you organize and switch between multiple testing iterations seamlessly. Complementing the repeater is the decoder utility, designed to assist with decoding and analyzing common data formats such as JWT tokens, hashes, and various encoded strings. This addition streamlines payload analysis by providing quick decoding within the same workspace, removing the need for external tools. Security and privacy are fundamental to PhantomProxy’s architecture. The extension proactively protects against known web attacks like Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF), and other injection vectors by enforcing strict whitelists, input sanitization, and blocking requests to unsafe network addresses such as internal, private, or loopback ranges. Moreover, PhantomProxy does not collect or transmit any personal browsing data or analytics; all captured HTTP traffic resides solely within your local browser environment, ensuring user privacy and data security. PhantomProxy’s interface is modern, dark-themed, and fully responsive, designed to optimize user efficiency with clearly separated tabs for history, repeater, and decoder modules, all integrated within a single cohesive environment. Additionally, the extension popup provides convenient live status indicators and quick access toggles for enabling or disabling capture and other settings on the fly. Ideal for advanced web security work, debugging APIs, or examining complex request flows, PhantomProxy transforms your browser into a powerful, lightweight HTTP traffic inspection and manipulation platform—no external proxies or complicated setups required. Key Features: - Real-time capture and visualization of HTTP and HTTPS traffic directly inside browser Developer Tools. - Advanced filtering by HTTP method, status code, and URL to streamline traffic analysis. - Detailed request inspector with comprehensive views of headers, body payloads, timings, and metadata. - Built-in repeater tool for modifying, resending, and analyzing HTTP requests instantly. - Session management to organize multiple repeater experiments for iterative testing workflows. - Integrated decoder utilities to analyze JWTs, hashes, and encoded data inline. - Security-first design blocking unsafe requests (private/internal addresses) and preventing injection attacks through rigorous input validation. - Modern, dark-themed, and responsive user interface with dedicated tabs for efficient navigation between history, repeater, and decoder tools. - Fully self-contained—no need for external proxy servers or complex configurations. How It Works: 1. Install PhantomProxy and open your browser’s Developer Tools. Navigate to the “PhantomProxy” panel. 2. Traffic capture activates automatically; browse websites or use web applications as usual. All HTTP/HTTPS requests are logged in real-time and displayed in the history tab. 3. Apply filters by HTTP method, status code, or URL to narrow down the captured traffic and focus on relevant requests. 4. Select any specific request to view its full details including headers, body content, timing information, and other metadata—all presented in an easy-to-read format. 5. Move requests you want to test or modify to the repeater tab, where you can alter the HTTP method, URL, headers, or payload before resending. 6. Send the modified request and instantly review the response, including status code, headers, and formatted body content highlighted for clarity. 7. Manage multiple repeater sessions for iterative testing, and utilize the decoder tab to analyze complex payloads like JWTs and encoded strings on the fly. Privacy: - No personal data collected. PhantomProxy strictly operates locally, does not send analytics or browsing data externally, and secures all captured traffic within the browser environment.
