What our analysis found
NotebookLM Web Importer, used by 100,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in September 2026.
Analyst notes
The extension's code aligns exactly with its stated purpose: importing web pages and YouTube videos into Google NotebookLM. All network requests go to [domain withheld] (NotebookLM API) and [domain withheld] (Clerk authentication), both first-party domains. The analytics calls (E.capture) likely target the publisher's own domain and are typical product analytics. Required permissions (activeTab, scripting, cookies) are used legitimately with user-initiated actions. No data exfiltration, obfuscation, or unauthorized third-party communication was found. The ML and risk-engine flags stem from broad but justified permissions and standard minified bundle patterns, not malicious code.
