What our analysis found

Metastream Remote, used by 200,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites, can inject scripts into pages and can observe network requests. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in July 2026.

The extension's code is consistent with its stated purpose of synchronizing media playback with friends. All network communication targets the publisher's domain () and data handling is limited to session state. The broad permissions are necessary for modifying web requests to remove frame restrictions and injecting content scripts. No evidence of unauthorized data collection, exfiltration, or malicious behavior was found.

The Metastream application needs this to embed any website into the app.getmetastream.com website and to synchronize media. This functionality is limited to browser tabs actively using the app.getmetastream.com website.

Been using it for over a year now and I use it A LOT. By far the best option I've found compared to Teleparty and whatever else. Works best using sites to stream rather than login sites.
