Analyst notes
The extension is a straightforward new-tab override that displays an RSS news feed (NYT Television), a widget, weather from OpenWeatherMap (a well-known public API), and six static shortcut links. It declares no sensitive permissions in the manifest beyond `chrome_url_overrides.newtab`, makes no external data exfiltration calls, and uses no obfuscation. The ML model's elevated score is fully explained by the `innerHTML` usage (legitimate DOM templating for RSS items), image files (shortcut icons + background), and the HTML link structure — all benign artefacts of a simple new-tab page. The third-party chrome-stats score is also low (Impact), and our own risk engine scored it 0.00. The one anomaly — that `fetchWeatherByLocation` obtains the user's geolocation but then ignores the coordinates and hardcodes `q=America` in the API URL — is a coding bug, not malicious intent; the location data is never transmitted anywhere.
