Honey: Automated Coupons & Rewards, used by 13,000,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can inject scripts into pages and can observe network requests. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in October 2026.
PayPal Honey is a well-established, PayPal-owned coupon and cashback extension with 14M users, a Google Publisher badge, and an ML score of 0.00 (correctly low). The risk-engine's Critical rating (10.65) is driven entirely by permission-tier heuristics — the actual source code shows no malicious behavior: ` ` intercepts only to emit same-origin timing signals (`postMessage` with `window.location.origin`); ` ` loads hidden affiliate-tagging iframes from URLs supplied by the extension's own background worker (first-party affiliate commission tracking, not third-party exfiltration); ` ` reads `window.paypal.version` and posts it same-origin for PayPal SDK detection; and the `extensionMixinScripts` are tiny dialog-suppression helpers used during automated coupon application. The bundled manifest matches the published CWS manifest exactly with no discrepancies. All broad permissions (`scripting`, `webRequest`, `cookies`, `) are standard and expected for a coupon auto-apply and cashback attribution tool whose data collection is fully disclosed in CWS (web history, user activity, website content).
