hide.me Proxy, used by 100,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in March 2026.

The extension is a legitimate client by, a known and trusted VPN provider. All permissions (proxy, privacy, scripting, activeTab, storage) are necessary for its functionality: routing traffic, disabling WebRTC, checking QUIC status on its own test page, and storing settings. Outbound connections go exclusively to infrastructure (,, *.) or a GitHub fallback controlled by the publisher. No user data is collected or exfiltrated; the CWS disclosure lists no data collection, which is accurate. The ML model likely over-fitted on benign patterns such as code, many image files (country flags), and standard DOM manipulation (innerHTML, appendChild) in the popup.
