This extension provides usage tweaks for opening external links within applications like JIRA/Confluence

Externalizer The Externalizer analyses the DOM to find links marked as somehow 'external'. If found it updates the links to use a new tab or window as target. It was created to ensure that external links within JIRA or Confluence are opened in a new tab or window. This extension should work with similar web applications as well. Due to the lag of support to configure this in several applications themselves, this extension was created. After installation you can try it for example with the public JIRA demo with this <a href="https://jira.atlassian.com/projects/TST/issues/TST-39549?filter=allopenissues">issue</a>
