What our analysis found
Earth 3D Maps, used by 100,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in April 2024.
Analyst notes
The extension is a straightforward 3D map viewer using Maps. The ML model's low score (0.02) already indicates minimal risk, and source code review confirms no malicious behavior. Outbound requests go only to the publisher’s own domain ( tracking with version number) and to map API providers (Bing, Google), all consistent with the stated functionality. No permissions are declared, so no sensitive data access. The manifest version mismatch (bundled v2 vs. published v3) is a listing metadata inconsistency, not a security threat. The undisclosed install tracking is minimal and to a first-party domain, likely an oversight. The regex pattern hits (iframe, base64, img tags, http links) are all expected from a map-specific extension.
