Detractless replaces your new tab page with a clean interface designed to slow down impulsive browsing habits. By adding configurable delays to search queries and limits to open tabs, this extension helps you be more deliberate about how you use your browser. Every time you search, Detractless adds a waiting period before showing results—anywhere from 1 minute to several minutes, or turn it off entirely. During the wait, you'll see a countdown timer and optional details about what you're searching for. This brief pause creates space to ask: "Do I really need this right now?" The delay applies to major search engines including Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, YouTube, Reddit, and others. You can increase the delay instantly, but decreasing it requires a 30-minute waiting period to prevent impulsive changes. Set a maximum number of open tabs (1-10 or more) and choose how to enforce it. In "block" mode, new tabs won't open once you hit the limit. In "random" mode, an existing tab closes to make room for the new one. The goal is to break the habit of hoarding dozens of tabs you'll never revisit. Like search delays, increasing your tab limit takes effect after 30 minutes, while decreasing happens immediately. Instead of endless bookmark folders, Detractless gives you three pages to organize the sites you actually use. Create custom groups, add bookmarks with one click, and access everything from your new tab page. Import and export your bookmarks to back them up or transfer between browsers.
