What our analysis found
Color Picker for Chrome™, used by 600,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. Its permissions mean it can read and change data on all websites and can inject scripts into pages. It comes from a trusted publisher and was last updated in September 2026.
The extension performs exactly its stated purpose: it captures colors via screenshot, provides a picker overlay, and analyzes page colors. All data is stored locally in chrome.storage.sync. There is no communication with external servers, no credential harvesting, and no obfuscation. The only outside request is a Google Fonts CSS import (in), which could expose browsing patterns to Google; however, this is not indicative of malware. The ML model likely misclassified due to broad permissions and DOM-heavy code, which are necessary for a color picker.
